Penn State squares off with Dartmouth

UNIVERSITY PARK – The No. 12/12 Penn State women’s ice hockey team welcomes ECAC member Dartmouth for a two-game series beginning Friday, October 18 at 6 p.m.

HISTORY

Penn State is facing Dartmouth for the third and fourth times in program history. Penn State currently leads the series 2-0 with the last meeting occurring on November 25, 2023, when Penn State defeated the Big Green 8-2.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN

Dartmouth kicks off their 2024-25 season against the Nittany Lions this week. The team returns one of their top offensive players from a season ago in Laura Fucco who registered 20 points off eight goals and 12 assists. They also return their top goalie from the 2023-24 season in Eleanor Rogers who had a record of 4-15-1, GAA of 4.90, and save percentage of .837. The Big Green finished 10th in the conference with a 6-21-3 overall record and 3-16-3 ECAC record.

Parking for Penn State women’s ice hockey games at Pegula Ice Arena will be available at the following locations beginning two hours prior to the start of each game:

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Freshman Nicole Hall scored her first collegiate goal and point in the Nittany Lions 5-3 victory over Union on Saturday. Meanwhile, goalie Lauren Barbro made her Nittany Lion debut in Saturday’s game as she recorded 22 saves off 25 shots attempted as she earned her first win as well.

DOMINATING THE FACEOFF CIRCLE

The Nittany Lions are continuing their domination in the faceoff circle as Penn State currently sits seventh in the nation in faceoff win percentage as Penn State is winning 57.7% of their faceoffs as a team.

Leading the faceoff group is Tessa Janecke as she has won 84 faceoffs off 123 attempts for a 68% faceoff win percentage.

AWARDS TIME!

Graduate-students Alyssa Machado and Lyndie Lobdell picked up Atlantic Hockey America weekly awards as the league announced on Monday. Lobdell was named AHA Defensive Player of the Week while Machado earned a Forward of the Week honor.

Machado picks up her first AHA Forward of the Week award this season after she led the Nittany Lions in points and goals this week recorded five points in the series at Union. She racked up three goals and two assists as well as plus +4 rating. Two of her goals came in game two of the series when she scored back-to-back goals in 14 seconds which was the fastest back-to-back goals by the same player in program history.

She also added one assist in the game to tally three points on the evening. The last time Machado had a three-point game came against Lindenwood on November 4, 2023, where she recorded three assists. This is Machado’s second career AHA Forward of the Week honor.

Lobdell picks up the Nittany Lions first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season while receiving her fourth career Defensive Player of the Week award. The Aurora, Ill. native recorded three points in the series at Union this past week as she fired one goal, two assists, and two blocked shots.

She also recorded a plus/minus rating of +5 which led the team. This season, Lobdell has two goals and three assists for five points.
