Week 6 wraps up for youth league

LEWISTOWN – The calendar has flipped to October and the Central Keystone Youth Football & Cheer League (CKYFCL) has entered the stretch run of the 2024 regular season.

BURNHAM 4 – DERRY-DECATUR 1

ALFARATA – Four different players found the endzone as the Burnham Bulldogs used a balanced attack to defeat the host Derry-Decatur Cyclones by a 4-1 tally on Sunday afternoon.

Burnham got on the board with two touchdowns in the opening frame to take a 2-0 lead after a quarter of play. Robert Davis found the endzone and was followed by a Kyson Miller score as the Bulldogs ran out to a 2-0 lead after the first.

After jumping out to the early lead, the Bulldogs tagged two more scores on the board in the second quarter. Carter Cherry ran it in from 35 yards out before Cole Kauffman struck paydirt on a 24-yard scamper to propel the Bulldogs to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Derry-Decatur scored in the fourth quarter on a Camden Hesketh touchdown run, but it wasn’t enough as Burnham prevailed by a 4-1 tally.

KISH 4- TERRACE 1

REEDSVILLE – Behind four different players finding the endzone, the Kish Indians won their sixth straight game and built a two-game lead in the division with a 4-1 victory over the Terrace Tigers.

Kish got on the scoreboard with six and change to play in the first quarter when Bennett Harmon punched it in from the 14-yard line to build a 1-0 lead.

The host Indians added two scores in the second quarter to run out to a 3-0 halftime lead. Quay Vogt scored on a five-yard carry and Jack Wagner matched Vogt with a five-yard run of his own to propel Kish to a three-score advantage at the break.

Out of the intermission the Indians wasted little time in getting back on the board. Layton Glick scored with 12:30 to play in the third on a four-yard burst to push the Kish lead to 4-0.

Terrace scored late in the third quarter on a 34-yard Jadiel Guevara scamper, but it was the Indians owning a 4-1 lead as the game shifted to the fourth stanza.

Both defenses were up to the task in the fourth quarter, holding the opponent off the scoreboard as Kish rolled to a 4-1 victory.

Oakley Maurer led the Kish defense with nine stops on the day. Emmett Hostetler added six tackles and Karter Gieza made five tackles to round out a strong defensive effort for the host Indians.

JUNIATA 9 – MCVEYTOWN 8 (4 OT)

MCVEYTOWN – Ryker Stahl barreled into the endzone for his third score of the day and push Juniata to a 9-8 lead. Juniata’s defense responded in a big way and turned in a goal-line stand on fourth down as the visiting Little Indians picked up an 9-8 victory over the host McVeytown Eagles in a four-overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon.

Stahl was joined by James Gehman with three scores to lead the way for the Juniata offense. Stephen Batarick scored twice while Wyatt Seiber added a score on his birthday to round out the scoring for the Little Indians.

BURNHAM 21 – DERRY-DECATUR 0

ALFARATA – Behind a balanced offensive attack and a shutdown defense, the Burnham Bulldogs picked up a hard-earned 21-0 victory over the Derry-Decatur Cyclones on Sunday afternoon.

Burnham got on the scoreboard with 7:56 to play in the first quarter when Ricky Jenkins barreled into the endzone from the one to push the Bulldogs to a 6-0 lead.

Following a defensive hold, the Bulldogs extended the lead on a 20-yard Connor Rose touchdown run to build a 13-0 advantage after a quarter of play.

Burnham added to its lead midway through the second stanza. Michael Vodopija scampered into the endzone from the three-yard line to push the lead to 19-0. Quarterback Chantz Williams found Aiden Alexander on the two-point conversion to round out the scoring on the day as Burnham picked up its fourth win of the year by a 21-0 tally.

KISH 39 – TERRACE 0

REEDSVILLE – Duke Peachey scored on offense, defense and special teams to lead the host Kish Indians to a resounding 39-0 victory over the visiting Terrace Tigers.

The victory was Kish’s sixth shutout victory of the season and marked a season sweep over Terrace. Following an early exchange, Kish got on the board with a first-quarter defensive score. Peachey picked off a Terrace pass and returned it to the endzone to put Kish out in front by a 6-0 score.

Peachey’s heroics continued following the ensuing Terrace possession. After the Kish defense forced a Terrace punt, Peachey scampered off the right side and to the endzone to extend the Indians’ lead to 12-0.

Kish added another score in the first on a Wyatt Hassinger touchdown run to build an 18-0 lead after the opening frame.

Following a busy first-quarter, Kish added a touchdown in the second quarter of play to take a 26-0 lead to the intermission. Quarterback Easton Trutt delivered a strike to Peachey for his third score of the day to push the Kish lead to 24-0. Trutt then found Jase Atherton on the two-point conversion to push the score to 26-0 at the break.

Kish added a score in the third quarter to build the lead to 33-0 when Atherton got on the scoresheet with a touchdown run on a reverse.

Kish rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter as quarterback Colton Baumgardner took a sweep around the right side and plowed into the end zone to wrap up a 39-0 victory.

MCVEYTOWN 41 – JUNIATA 0

MCVEYTOWN – Alex Weaver scampered for two touchdowns on the day to lead five different scorers as the McVeytown Eagles rolled past the visiting Juniata Little Indians by a 41-0 tally on Sunday afternoon.

Weaver opened the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run with 2:40 to play in the first to build a 6-0 McVeytown lead. Calvin Napiksoki found Mathew Hartsock on the two-point conversion to push the advantage to 8-0.

McVeytown’s defense put the ball back in the hands of the offense with a quick turnover before the Eagles cashed in. Hartsock sprinted to the endzone from 44 yards out to push the lead to 14-0 after a quarter of play.

The host Eagles scored three times in a busy second quarter to build a 34-0 halftime lead. With 9:35 to go in the first half, Napikoski fielded a Juniata punt and took it 55 yards to the house to extend the McVeytown lead to 21-0. Jayse Snyder added a score on a 15-yard touchdown carry and Cole Laughlin scored on a five-yard burst with 48 ticks to go as the Eagles blew the game wide open at a 34-0 halftime tally.

Weaver bookended the day with a 15-yard touchdown run with 3:14 to play in the third quarter as McVeytown powered its way to its sixth victory of the season by a 41-0 score.

Along with his offensive accolades, Weaver also led the defense with six tackles and a fumble recovery. Hartsock and Laughlin added a fumble recovery a piece to help lead McVeytown to its sixth shutout of the season.

MIDGETS

BURNHAM 30 – DERRY-DECATUR 6

ALFARATA – Malachi Galbraith scored twice on the ground and hauled in a touchdown pass to lead the Burnham Bulldogs to a 30-6 victory over the Derry-Decatur Cyclones.

Galbraith got the scoring started in the first quarter with a 20-yard touchdown jaunt and later converted a two-point conversion on a reception from his brother Eli to build an 8-0 Burnham lead after the first quarter.

The Galbraith connection struck again in the second quarter when Eli found Malachi on a 50-yard strike and on the ensuing two-point conversion as Burnham owned a 16-0 halftime lead.

Out of the intermission, it was a Malachi Galbraith five-yard touchdown run that propelled Burnham to a 22-0 lead. The Galbraith’s capped off a busy day with another two-point conversion to extend the lead to 24-0.

Burnham added another third-quarter score as Patience Vodopija found Ryland Breon on a 30-yard connection to build a 30-0 Bulldogs lead after three quarters of play.

Derry-Decatur got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when Drake Finefrock sprinted to the endzone from midfield but it wasn’t enough as Burnham picked up its fifth win of the year by a 30-6 tally.

Colton Cherry led the Burnham defense with eight tackles and a pair of sacks.

TERRACE 12 – KISH 7

The CKYFCL is a 501c3 registered non-profit organization benefitting the more than 600 children across a four-county area in Central Pennsylvania.
