River Hawks rout Wolfley, Juniata

SELINSGROVE — Midd-West High School product Hunter Wolfley is usually known for his powerful legs rushing the football. On Saturday, the Juniata College senior put his receiving skills to the test.

Wolfley ran for 33 yards but also hauled in seven receptions for 19 yards as the Eagles were outgunned by No. 8 Susquehanna 66-21 in Landmark Conference football action at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field in Selinsgrove on Saturday.

Juniata quarterback Calvin German went 34-of-45 for 371 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in defeat.

The Eagles (1-5, 0-2) trailed 21-0 after the first quarter and 49-14 at halftime. River Hawks quarterback Josh Ehrlich ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more in the first half alone. Susquehanna (6-1, 3-0) also saw Kyle Howes return a kickoff 90 yards for a score. He also was on the receiving end of a 27-yard strike from Ehrlich to give the River Hawks a 7-0 lead.

Susquehanna’s Rahshan La Mons also ripped off a 96-yard run to make it a 14-0 game in the first quarter. La Mons added a 64-yard TD run in the second quarter. He finished the game with 185 yards on just six carries.

The River Hawks had seven ball carriers combine for 394 yards on the day. Susquehanna outgained Juniata by a 641-445 margin in total offense.

The Eagles’ Sean Hakanson caught seven passes for 145 yards and two TDs, while teammate Quintin Stephens added 93 receiving yards and a score. One of Hakanson’s scores was a 75-yard bomb from German in the second quarter.

Lock Haven 35, Bloomsburg 32: Rocco Daugherty returned a fumble recovery 14 yards for a touchdown and Jackson Ostrowsky threw a pair of second-half scores as Lock Haven rallied to beat visiting Bloomsburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division action at Hubert Jack Stadium at Lock Haven on Saturday.

The Eagles (3-4, 2-2) grabbed a 21-6 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 1-yard run by Damir Green and Ostrowsky’s 64-yard toss to T’iar Young. Daugherty’s scoop and score capped the scoring.

Bloomsburg (3-4, 1-2) rattled off 19-straight points as KJ Riley threw a pair of TD passes – one for 60-yards to Gabe Brower and a 13-yarder to Peyton Persing. That gave the Huskies a 25-21 lead.

The Eagles answered with a pair of Ostrowsky TD scores to go up, 35-25. The quarterback went 29-of-45 for 339 yards and three TDs. Young was his favorite target with 10 catches for 141 yards and two TDs.

Riley threw for 290 yards, four TDs and two picks. He also rushed for 87 yards. Brower had four catches for 98 yards.

Kutztown 31, Shippensburg 2: Shippensburg couldn’t solve No. 5 Kutztown on Saturday, falling to the Golden Bears in a PSAC East contest at Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium in Shippensburg.

The Raiders (2-5, 1-3) started four drives at their own 40-yard line or better but could not establish any offensive momentum against Kutztown (7-0, 4-0), ranked third in the nation in scoring defense and fourth in total defense.

Shippensburg only got as far as the Kutztown 37-yard-line on the day, managing just 102 yards and seven first downs.

The Raider defense limited the Golden Bears to 50 rushing yards and recorded two interceptions as Josh Lesesne and Mike Fayemi picked off Kutztown quarterback Judd Novak twice to keep the Raiders in the game.

The contest was a 7-0 affair midway through the second quarter when the Golden Bears had the most productive drive of the game by either team – a nine-play, 53-yard jaunt that took 5:20 and gave the visitors a 14-0 lead with 3:14 left in the half.

The backbreaker for the Raiders came in the final minute of the half. After a turnover on downs, Kutztown got the ball with 58 seconds left and on the second play of the drive popped a 46-yard touchdown pass to take a 21-0 lead into halftime.

The lone points for Shippensburg came in the third quarter when the snap on a Golden Bear punt rolled 30 yards through the back of the end zone for a safety.

Jaedyn Stewart who rushed for two first-quarter scores for Kutztown, had 37 yards in the contest. Novak passed for TDs in the second and fourth quarters, ending the game 23 of 35 for 262 yards.
