Red Land may be Mifflin County’s 50th victory

Red Land, Mifflin County’s opponent this Friday in football holds a special place in Mifflin County sports history.

Well, maybe not so “special.”

It was Red Land that beat Indian Valley for the state 3A baseball title in 1990. At the time it was the highest PIAA level for baseball competition. No other Mifflin County High School sports team has ever been in the highest level of the PIAA state finals competition.

That is why this team is called the “Forgotten Team,” as they finished second and a lot of people have forgotten how good a team this IV squad was and that no other Mifflin County High School (Rothrock, Kishacoquillas, Lewistown, Chief Logan, Penn Highlands) team in any sport has ever gotten that far at the highest level.

On Friday, the Mifflin County football team can earn the program’s 50th victory if it beats Red Land. Since the new school was formed from Lewistown and Indian Valley, the football program has a record of 49-103 (.322) in 15 seasons.

This also will mark the final home regular season game for 18 seniors (Senior Night). Those players are Sam Arnold, Avery Aurand, Harrison Bulick, Jordyn Daly, Preston Ettinger, Cyrell Green, Peyton Kearns, Blake Knarr, Josh Maldonado, Michalel McNitt, Dominick Morgan, Evan Naugle, Brendon Noerr, Dupree Reed, Brice Rishel, Hunter Tipton, Ethan West and Fletcher Wilson.

If Mifflin County wins, Red Land will finally go down in the Mifflin County High School record books with a historic loss.

Starting at $2.99/week.
