Baysox silence Curve

ALTOONA — The Altoona Curve bats got going late, but it was too little, too late in a 6-2 loss to the Bowie Baysox in Eastern League action at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Sunday night.

Bowie’s Alex Pham scattered two runs and three hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking one. After Pham exited, the Baysox bullpen allowed only one hit and one walk the rest of the way.

Bowie (22-23, 54-59) built a 6-0 lead until the Curve (18-27, 47-67) pushed across two runs in the bottom of the frame. Abraham Gutierrez singled and ended up on third after a Baysox error. He scored on Tres Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly to left.

One batter later, Matt Fraizer tripled and scored on Kervin Pichardo’s double. The Curve ended up with four hits.

Po-Yu Chen took the loss. He was chased in the second inning, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking three.

Altoona hosts New Hampshire on Tuesday.
