PennDOT announces maintenance projects

LEWISTOWN — The following schedule of maintenance activities in Mifflin County the week of Oct. 7. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in Mifflin County for the coming week is as follows:

Mechanized Patching

• Route 4001 (Woodland Road) between the intersections of Route 1005 (Tea Creek Road) and Route 4006 (Back Mountain Road) in Brown Township. Monday, through Wednesday. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Mechanized patching is used to patch limited roadway areas that have extensive potholes, large areas of cracked pavement, and depressions. If mechanized patching was not performed, the damaged road surface would further deteriorate, resulting in PennDOT needing to completely rebuild the road or perform more costly corrective measures.

Pipe Replacement and Cleaning

• Route 103 between the Huntingdon-Mifflin County line in Wayne Township and the intersection of Ridge Road in Bratton Township. Thursday and Friday.

Pipe replacement and cleaning are essential in maintaining water flow around state roadways. Controlling water flow is one of the most important aspects of maintaining pavements. Uncontrolled water flow will damage both the pavement surface and the area under the pavement, which causes deterioration across the length of the pipe.

In Juniata County, the following projects are underway for the week of Oct. 7:

Crack Seal and Hot Pour Mastic

• Route 235 between the intersections of Liberty Road and the Juniata-Snyder County line in Fayette Township. Monday through Friday.

Crack sealing and hot pour mastic operations prevent water intrusion from seeping through cracks or joints in an asphalt road, which can lead to potholes and pavement breakup. They are proactive preventive maintenance strategies to prevent water from entering the roadways and accelerating the formation of potholes and other failures.

Pipe Replacement and Cleaning

• Route 4001 (Muddy Run Road) between the intersections of Route 333 and School House Road in Milford Township. Monday.

Pipe replacement and cleaning are essential in maintaining water flow around state roadways. Controlling water flow is one of the most important aspects of maintaining pavements. Uncontrolled water flow will damage both the pavement surface and the area under the pavement, which causes deterioration across the length of the pipe.

Storm Cleanup

• Route 75 between the intersections of Matamoras Road in Spruce Hill Township and the intersection of Boyer Road in Turbett Township. Tuesday through Friday.

Crews will clear the shoulder of debris and sediment recently washed out by heavy rains.

This schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen interruptions.

Starting at $2.99/week.
