LEWISTOWN — Like many of the games that will be played at the new venues at the Huskies Multi-Sports Facilities Project, the clock is ticking.

State grant funding is contingent on construction being completed by Dec. 31. That means the deadline is only a few months away.

“The project is moving right along,” Mifflin County School District Superintendent of Schools Vance Varner said.

Looking at the stadium site there is obvious progress with regard to the main fieldhouse as well as the visitors side and the student and band section of bleachers at Kish Bank Field at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium.

Varner said “the visitor’s side bleachers and the press box at the main field are very close to being finished. I was on the construction site this morning and the construction crews were finishing up the handicap ramp on the visitor’s side bleachers.”

The home side bleachers on the opposite side of the field are a different story. A few changes were necessary.

The project ran into some concerns with the stabilization of the bank underneath the home bleachers. “We were on hold until engineers could evaluate the bank and determine what steps were needed moving forward,” Varner said. “At the end of last week, we received engineering approval to use caissons to prove the necessary bank stabilizations.”

Varner is optimistic the work on the home bleachers will start within the next three weeks.

Buy a brick

The Mifflin County Stadium Project Committee encourages community members to support the project by taking advantage of the opportunity to have their names engraved into history and in the new stadium.

A limited number of personalized 4-inch by 8-inch bricks are for sale whereby supporters can buy one and stake their claim on this generational event. Each brick comes with three engraved lines of up to 18 spaces per line.

Supporters can imagine walking into the new facility in 2025, how proud they will feel, and the fun of locating their brick and posing for photos.

The bricks will be priced at $250; however, as an incentive to participate for the first 1,000 bricks ordered the price has been lowered to $200 per brick.

Club members will receive a special bronze plaque in the stadium, which lists the names of those contributing to the project.
