Lewistown contractor killed in Clinton Co. roofing accident

MILL HALL — A contractor from Mifflin County was killed Friday morning in a roofing accident at a Clinton County high school when the ladder on which he was standing shifted, causing him to fall about 30 feet to the concrete below.

Kyler Keller, 27, of Lewistown, was climbing a ladder to work on the roof of Central Mountain High School, located at 64 Keystone Central Drive, Mill Hall, about 11:50 a.m. At the time, Keller was carrying a five-gallon bucket of

sealant needed to complete a roof repair, according to a Public Information Release Report issued by Pennsylvania State Police in Clinton County.

Although a co-worker was holding the bottom of the ladder, the top of the ladder shifted as Keller attempted to put the bucket on the roof, police said. The ladder slid along the top of the building, police said, ultimately causing Keller to fall.

Life-saving measures were attempted by school staff until emergency personnel arrived, police said. Keller was transported to the emergency room at UPMC Lock Haven, where he died.

Community response

The Juniata Valley community has already started to rally around the Keller Family. Helping Hands of Juniata County announced on Sunday that its next raffle will benefit Kyler’s wife, Nadine, and his 1-year-old son, Kolson. Kyler and Nadine are originally from Juniata County, Helping Hands posted on its social media page. The tickets sold out in two hours.

Officials said, “Nothing could ever take away the pain of losing a loved one but we can help raise money for them to have a small cushion to fall back on if they need.”

The raffle is called, “The Fair Tote,” as vendors at the Juniata County Fair generously donated a lot of items. The tote includes snacks, jerky, Tupperware, jug lamp, hats, sugar scrub, candle, wind spinner, car diffuser, t-shirt, maple syrup and pecans, dips and a rub, freeze dried candy and a Port Royal speedway plate. Spots are $20 per spot and 50 spots are available.

Helping Hands is also accepting donations through Venmo at @jcohelpinghands-1 or mail them to the Helping Hands treasurer at 137 Pine St., Thompsontown, PA 17094. Find them on Facebook for more information.
