Senior center serving up volleyball, ice cream session

EAST WATERFORD –What better way to end a cardio and upper body workout than with a dollop of ice cream.

That’s exactly what will be served up at the Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services Corp. — The Care Network’s Centers in Motion Chair Volleyball and Ice Cream Social at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lack-Tuscarora EMS Building, 9320 Route 75 South, East Waterford.

“Chair Volleyball is played every Tuesday at the Four Seasons Senior Center,” explained Beth Harlan, senior community services supervisor at MJRSC — The Care Network. “It is very popular.”

In the past members from the Four Seasons Senior Center traveled from Mifflintown to the Lack-Tuscarora EMS to show the Coffee with Friends members how it’s played.

Harlan said that they have enjoyed the fun, fast-paced game ever since.

“It is an active game, good exercise but also a lot of laughter and chattiness comes along with it,” she explained. “I have played at the different locations and have to say it is one of my favorites.

“I enjoy watching the members play, they do take it seriously but there is always time for a good laugh,” she added.

The event is open to anyone 55 or older. Beginners are welcome. The event is free, although donations are appreciated.
