Man jailed on assault charges

From staff reports

REEDSVILLE — An 18-year-old was arrested Monday when police said he “headbutted” multiple officers and attempted to flee from police.

Gaige M. Kahley, of Reedsville, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Craig A. Weston Monday on three counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, police were dispatched to a residence at 66 Woodland Circle, Brown Township for an alleged assault.

Upon arrival, police said they said they called out to Kahley, who was walking down Woodland Circle from the driveway. When the officer told Kahley he was with the police, the report says he dropped a backpack and another item and “took off running on foot.”

The report states that the officer chased Kahley between two houses, then deployed a taser, causing him to fall to the ground. At that time, he was handcuffed.

While being escorted to the patrol vehicle, the report states Kahley attempted to “headbutt” the officer several times. Once at the patrol vehicle, the officer said Kahley again began resisting arrest and headbutted a second officer.

Kahley was taken to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital to be medically cleared prior to going to Mifflin County Correctional Facility. On the way back to the facility, the report says police had to stop to deploy pepper spray into the back of the patrol vehicle to prevent Kahley from kicking the back windows out.

Also during the ride back to the facility, the report says Kahley gave himself a bloody nose and a laceration on his cheek by hitting his head and face off the cage in the back of the vehicle. When being taken into the jail, the report says Kahley spit on one officer. He was then removed from the vehicle and taken into booking and placed in a restraint chair.

After being held in the correctional facility, Kahley was taken back to the hospital for treatment.

While being transported to the correctional facility, officers gathered items Kahley abandoned along the roadway prior to attempting to flee on foot.

The report says the backpack contained a number of knives and a cap with a socket used to ingest marijuana.

A victim reported that Kahley had been acting “strange all weekend.” At one point, a victim said Kahley pushed him down and attempted to choke him.

A second victim reported that Kahley was being confrontational and told Kahley to get off his property.

Kahley was held in Mifflin County Correctional Facility, on $50,000 bail. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing set for

9 a.m. Thursday.
