Spechty20 - unfortunately there are going to be fights regaurdless of the skatepark. fights happen all the time.. at school, the roller rink, the fairs..

elrando - you are just completly uninformed. skateboarding has become a little more refined than a pineboard on skates. please keep in mind that some of these kids DO build their own boards. these kids CANT ride on the streets anymore, or near the schools or ride their bikes on the fair grounds.. because people complain, or there are signs prohibiting it. i dont know how old you are but kids cant run free like they used to. also, there is only so much you can do on a skateboard on flat ground. they could use things such as rails and half pipes and other ramps.. also, i would love to see YOUR home, community, family, friends, personal belongings, etc. destroyed in a natural disaster and not hope for a little help from humanity. are you serious?

im not saying they NEED it, but it sure would have been a positive in the community

you can only hope that these kids learn. its up to us to teach them right from wrong. and in my opinion a lot of you are not setting a good example. they are kids, our future.. embrace them ALL! not ALL kids are going to be into animals enough to join 4h, not all kids are going to be tall enough to play basketball, and so on. skateboarding is by no means a lazy sport! it takes a lot of endurance and balance and skill. that is something im sure of! i tried for years to learn when i was in high school... and i still cant so much as ollie! tons of blood, sweat, tears, broken bones and passion go into this sport just as any other sport.

i think its a heck of a lot better than watching them all sit inside and play PS or wii or whatever..

yes, skateboarding is a popular professional sport. dont let anyone tell you differently.

this is a project that could have really been a launching pad into something bigger than just "something for them to do" for these kids. they tried very hard to be involved. they raised money, im sure could have provided some labor into building it.. you negative people are not seeing the bigger picture here! they could be learning skills such as money management, basic construction.. and things like that. you dont get respected if you dont show respect. and lying is by no means respectful.

plain and simple, kids are kids.. they could have the best parents in the world, the worst parents, poor parents, rich parents.. they are going to get themselves into trouble from time to time. they are going to make the wrong decisions.. i dont care if they are a baseball, basketball, football player.. name any sport or activity, someone has gotten into some sort of trouble..

Has anyone stopped to realize that this is a professional sport? We have baseball, soccor, and football fields. What is so wrong about Lewistown growing w/ the times? You have to have some way of monitoring this park but does anyone monitor the others when there isn't a game or sanctioned practice? Why is everyone holding a few bad kids and the things that they do against the good ones?

when i was a kid in my teens we didnt bit*h about the older people building us a skateboard rink to play on. we built our own skateboards out of used roller skates and a pine board. we road them down hills in town where there wasnt any traffic. i am so sick of all these punks saying there isnt anything to do. we used to all ride our bikes at the school or in the fairgrounds at port royal. we rollerskated at the firehall on fridays and we played basketball at the elem and high school when the weather allowed. there is churh, and 4-H and many activites if they just get off their lazy butts instead of wanting someone else to do it for them. sounds the the people in new orleans. give me give me give me!!!!

Lewistown has allways had a history of wastfull spending on projects that the community does not want, but when it comes to putting up money for the young people of this town they turn their backs. I feel that if a skate park is constructed it will benefit all and will show the youth of this area that their communiy really does care about them, all they need is a chance,so come on lewistown step up to the plate.

No, because i think that things would get worse. Unless there are supervisors there i suggest not to because there might and probably will be fights. Well, at least get a video camera to watch them.Instead of wasting money on things we really DON'T need we could use it on stuff we do need. Like fixing the holes and bumps in the roads. THEY'RE A PAIN!! :)

Yes,I think that a skate park will help. Why is that whenever it comes time to do something in this town to give back to our youth, everyone always tries to find reasons why we should not do it. We are taking away from the kids who may benefit from having this park here when we hold the things that could go wrong against them all. Yet we are so quick to complain about the drugs, bad behaviors here that we are not giving them an opportunity at good behaviors for us to support. We want our young people to thrive & become good citizens, lets give them a chance to show them we believe in them & maybe we'll also give the youth here a reason to want to stay here & do well. Are we going to hold all the negatives against something that could be such a positive influence here? If so, What kind of role models are we being for our youth?

I think that a if a skate park was put it, it would need to be ran by responsible adults, have set rules that are fallowed and the park maintained by funds raised from memberships to the park. A zero tolerance policy would ween out the bad ones and give the kids that do deserve the park a chance to have something. Have the members help keep the place maintained and clean to give them a sense of pride.

It's great that the kids will have a place to go. But one of the problems will be how they get thers. Most will probably skateboard to Rec Park and have residents complaining that they are doing things on the way there or back that shouldn't be done. I also think if there is no supervision there are going to be problems.

It's worth a try. I think something needs to be attempted. They have been talking about this since I was in high school and still hasen't happened!

I FEEL THAT UNLESS IT WILL BE CLOSLY MONITOR THAT IT WILL ONLY MAKE MATTERS WORSE,IT IS A GREAT IDEA FOR KIDS BUT I FEEL THE LOCATION IS VERY BAD,WITH THE VIOLENCE AND THE DRUGS IN THIS TOWN I REALLY DONT THINK IT WILL WORK OUT.IT IS SAD BECAUSE THE KIDS WHO REALLY NEED THIS,THE BAD PEOPLE WILL RUIN IT FOR THEM,IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE IT AND IN THIS LOCATION TO HAVE IT MONITOR.
