HOUSTON, TX - Several Juniata Valley Striders completed in the USATF National Championships in Houston, Texas.
Malik Sechler was the big winner of the week taking two top-30 finishes.
Sechler finished 15th in the triple jump (12.44 meters) and 30th in the long jump (5.94 meters).
He was the highest individual finisher of the bunch.
"The kids did a great job at Nationals," Program Director Ron Sprecher said. "Most of the kids hit personal bests. With two of our top kids sick and (considering) the heat, we were surprised with the performances on this level.
The 4 X 800 relay team of Garrett Baublitz, Seth Phillips, Garren Wolfgang and Jeremiah Parson took seventh place, crossing the line in 9:07.38.
Baublitz, Phillips and Parson each also turned in top-50 finishes individually.
Parson took 22nd in the 400 meters (53.15), Baublitz finished 28th in the 1500-meter (4:39.63) and Phillips' 56.27 second 400-meter dash was good enough for 49th place.
Kiana Sechler jumped for joy, earning 22nd place in the long jump (4.27) and 32nd in the high jump (1.20 meters).
Josiah Sechler was the remaining Strider in the top-50, finishing 17th in the Mini-Javelin (26.01 meters).
