LEWISTOWN - The local observance of National Night Out will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Lewistown Rec Park.
This nationwide observance is being sponsored locally by the Lewistown Borough Police Department, Mifflin County Communities That Care, Downtown Lewistown Inc. and community watch organizers throughout the borough.
This year marks the 31st year of National Night Out activities throughout the country and the 12th year a local observance of the event has been held.
The evening's free activities will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Child identification will be provided by local police officer, agency and emergency service participants. Food, and bicycle registration will be offered by local volunteers.
Attendees are encouraged to visit the Rec Park Farmers Market vendors, who will stay open later to accommodate participants at National Night Out.
In conjunction with the farmers market, there will a Fresh Food 5K through town beginning at 7 p.m.. Registration for the 5K will be at the farmers market information booth.
Chris Ruble will be the entertainment at the farmers market, and a cook-shop will also be held that evening.
Members of the Seven Mountains Jeep Club, Keystone Muscle Cars, Touring Friends Motorcycle Club and the All American Cruizers Car Club will have some of their vehicles on display for attendees to view.
Representatives of the Borough's three community watch groups will also be on hand to meet with attendees at the National Night Out event to discuss involvement with their neighborhood groups.
The evening's activities will conclude at 8:30 p.m. with a walk through the neighborhood.
The National Night Out observance is designed to help foster safe neighborhoods, promote positive relationships between the community and local law enforcement, and to enhance the livability of neighborhoods and communities.
