To the editor:
The commenters' opinions in The Sentinel Open Line are correct about the Sabbath being a day of rest, but here is what the Scriptures say:
"Therefore do not let anyone judge you with respect to food or drink, or in the matter of a feast, new moon, or Sabbath days. These are only the shadow of the things to come, but the reality is Christ!" (Colossians 2:16-17 NET)
"One person regards one day holier than other days, and another regards them all alike. Each must be fully convinced in his own mind."(Romans 14:5 NET)
"Every day they continued to gather together by common consent in the temple courts, breaking bread from house to house, sharing their food with glad and humble hearts, praising God and having the good will of all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved." (Acts 2:46-47 NET)
As for the other person complaining in the Open Line about people pushing religion on others, I can only state this truth: There is only one path into the kingdom of heaven, and that is through Jesus Christ. Jesus replied, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 NET) It's non-negotiable and you have to make up your own mind. I'm not pushing this on you, I'm just stating the truth - it's your decision to believe or not.
My hope is that God will soften your heart and open your mind and move you to consider this truth. I can only speak for myself, and I'm unashamed of my conviction and will proclaim it publicly. I might add that no one is perfect, including myself, and those who actually read and study their Bible every day understand that it is Jesus Christ who makes us perfect in the presence of God. It has changed my life in a positive way; it will change yours also. You just have to humble yourself.
