Bluegrass concert to be held in Big Valley
BELLEVILLE - The 35th Annual Big Valley Bluegrass Gospel Concert and Ice Cream Social will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday on the lawn of the Belleville Mennonite School.
Three bluegrass groups will perform. Randy French's group, Dry Bones Revival, will open the evening, and The Tussey Mountain Moonshiners will follow. Then, the ice cream social will feature homemade desserts contributed by the guests and Lewis Peachey's ice cream with sundae toppings.
The Unusual Suspects String Band will feature old time gospel and support local gospel singers to conclude the evening.
Guest are reminded to bring lawn chairs. A freewill offering will be collected to support the event.
Local Boy Scouts to hold camp reunion
SPRING MILLS - The Boy Scouts of America in Mifflin and Juniata counties are hosting a reunion event open to all current and past volunteers, Scout leaders and parents living in the area.
The reunion will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 10 at Seven Mountains Scout Camp, 227 Sand Mountain Road, Spring Mills. The event is free.

Theatre campers to perform for public
BEAVER SPRINGS -The students from the Generoo Organization's Youth Theatre Camp will present the MTI Broadway Junior musical production "Once on this Island JR" at 7 p.m. on July 11 and 12 in the West Snyder Elementary Auditorium in Beaver Springs.
Some 40 students are involved in the production directed by Michelle Bixler and Beverly Kline-Lash and assistant director, Ian Felker. Kelly Jean Graham is the choreographer for the production. Admission is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.
"Once on this Island JR" is an adaption of the popular Han Christian Andersen fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" and is set in the Caribbean. In the story a peasant girl, Ti Moune, rescues and falls in love with a young man from a wealthy family. Upon Daniel's return home, the gods who rule the island test Ti Moune on the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.
Living historian to present Victorian Tea
LEWISTOWN -Civil War living historian Myra Reichart, of Gettysburg, will be the featured speaker at the Mifflin County Historical Society's Summer Victorian Tea.
The tea, which will be held on July 12, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown.
Reichart's topic will be "The History and Etiquette of the Tea."
Tickets may be obtained for a $20 donation and are available from Mifflin County Historical Society office, 242-1022, or by calling Dorothy Aurand, event coordinator, at 248-7647. Deadline for reservations is Monday.
Eagle Scouts invited to summer camp
SPRING MILLS - The Boy Scouts of America in Centre, Mifflin, Juniata and Huntingdon Counties is hosting an Eagle Scout reunion event open to all Eagle Scouts living in the area.
The reunion will be held on July 14 at Seven Mountain Scout Camp. The event is free of charge. Check in will start at 6:30 p.m., with the reunion beginning at 7 p.m. Parking is available in the main summer camp lot.
The purpose of the event is for anyone who has attained the rank of Eagle Scout to come and enjoy a nice evening at summer camp and learn more about the current scouting program. The event will also serve as a venue for Eagle Scouts to reconnect and share an evening of fun, fellowship and light refreshments.
Pre-registration for the event is recommended.

Special day to be held in Yeagertown
YEAGERTOWN -Yeagertown Community Day will start at 8 a.m. on July 19.
There will be neighborhood yard sales.
Activities at the Yeagertown United Methodist Church on Mann Avenue will include an inside yard sale, free hot dogs and drinks, and the restrooms will be open to the public.
Richfield set for
annual Dutch Days
RICHFIELD -Richfield Dutch Days will be held July 16 to 19, after kicking off with a Community Outdoors Church Service at 7 p.m. on July 13 at Basom Park.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Richfield Mennonite Church.
There will be a special Dutch meal each evening.
Live entertainment includes: Chris Ruble on July 16; Borderline on July 17; Lucky Afternoon on July 18; and Friends in Christ on July 19. There will be special music in the church test each evening.
A new 2014 limited edition crock will be on sale in the Country Store, along with crafts and the new Dutch Days T-shirts.
This year's quilt will feature the Grange and Richfield Tops Club. The quilt will be displayed in the Juniata Valley Bank.
The parade will be held at 4 p.m. on July 19, starting at the County Line Restaurant.

Millerstown Flea Market is Aug. 16
MILLERSTOWN -Millerstown's Annual Outdoor Flea Market and Craft Show will be held Aug. 16 at the Millerstown Community Park, 110 West Juniata Parkway, near the Millerstown swimming pool, just off the ramps of Route 22-322.
Flea market vendors, yard sale individuals, craft vendors, antique vendors, farm market and produce vendors and businesses are all welcome to set up for the day for a fee of $10. More than 100 vendors are expected. No prior registration is required. Set up after 5:30 a.m. on the morning of the show. Rain date is Aug. 23.
Food and beverage sales are reserved by the sponsoring organization, Millerstown Community Success, Inc.

Pond Club meeting to be in McClure
MCCLURE -The Mifflin County Pond Club's summer meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on July 27 at the home/pond of Deborah Werntz, 12 Rush Lane, McClure, just off the Back Maitland Road,
Werntz has received a Garden Club Award for the Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary, an Audubon at Home recognized Backyard Bird Habitat, National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat, and the Penn State Master Gardener Certified Pollinator Friendly Garden.
Her presentation will be "Ponding As Part of a Wildlife Yard," covering gardening for wildlife, birds and pollinators, and using a water source as an item to be put in place for wildlife.
Anyone interested is invited to attend. Bring a lawn chair and a pond plant to talk about and share.
