LEWISTOWN - James R. Charlesworth, 91, of Lewistown, died at 7:15 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at UPMC-Altoona Trauma Center.
Born Sept. 3, 1922, in Ridgway, he was the son of the late George and Alma (Willis) Charlesworth.
He is survived by: his wife, Evelyn L. (Smith) Charlesworth, whom he married on Oct. 7, 1944; his daughter, Jean Louise Brown and husband, Samuel, of North Pole, Alaska; a son, Robert L. Charlesworth and wife, Darla J., of Lewistown; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Betty Shottschneider and husband, Al, of Sarasota, Fla.
He was preceded in death by: two brothers, George and Sam Charlesworth; and two sisters, Ruth Komp and Marybell Richard.
He was a graduate of Delaware Valley College, Class of 1943.
He was employed as an air conditioning and refrigeration supervisor at the American Viscose Corporation for 41 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Granville United Methodist Church; McVeytown F&AM 376; Lewistown Moose Lodge 143, Lewistown Elks Lodge 663; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Harrisburg Consistory and the Blue Juniata Beagle Club.
James loved sports and was an usher at Penn State football games. He was a great basketball player and loved the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He enjoyed growing shrubbery, working in the greenhouse, raising beagles, camping and fishing.
Most of all he loved to spend time with family and friends and telling stories.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown with Pastor G. Edward Corcelius officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
