American Legion to host classic car show
McCLURE - The fourth annual American Legion classic car show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 942, 40 Forbes St., McClure.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon and the entry fee is $12. Trophies will be awarded in various categories.

2nd Annual Davy Jones Day slated
BEAVER SPRINGS - The Middlecreek Area Community Center is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Davy Jones Memorial Day, which will be held Saturday.
The event runs from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Beavertown carnival grounds. There will be live music, food and karaoke. The unveiling of the Davy Jones Memorial Statue will also take place.

Country Showdown to take place Sunday
MIFFLINTOWN - The annual "Texaco Country Showdown" is set for Sunday at the Central Juniata EMS Auditorium in Mifflintown.
Admission fees and proceeds from the event will go to the Juniata County Food Pantry through the Liberty Weekend Committee.
The doors will open at 5 p.m., and the showdown will begin at 6. The band "Faces for Radio" will perform before and after the contest.
Admission is $3.50 for persons 16 or older, or $2 plus a nonperishable food item to donate to the Juniata County Food Pantry.

Nittany Knights to play in State College
STATE COLLEGE - The Nittany Knights and TWO-jazz will perform at the 2014 Music Picnic Series at South Hills School of Business and Technology in State College.
The free concert will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday on the north lawn of the school's main campus at 480 Waupelani Drive, State College.
The Nittany Knights and TWO-jazz perform barbershop and will lead a sing-along.
The outdoor concerts are held rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic suppers. Grounds open at 5 p.m.; music starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 7:30 p.m.

Theatre camps being offered by GENEROO
BEAVER SPRINGS -Registrations are now being accepted for GENEROO Theatre Camps for students to be held at West Snyder Elementary School in Beaver Springs.
The Middle School/High School Theatre Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 7 to 11. The focus will be musical theatre. The cost is $35.
The Grade School Theatre Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 9. The camp will emphasize the basics of theatre and theatre games. The cost is $10.
The camp will culminate with the one-act musical production of "Once On This Island Jr." at 7 p.m. on July 11 and12 at West Snyder Elementary School.

Local Boy Scouts to hold camp reunion
SPRING MILLS - The Boy Scouts of America in Mifflin and Juniata counties are hosting a reunion event open to all current and past volunteers, Scout leaders and parents living in the area.
The reunion will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 10 at Seven Mountains Scout Camp, 227 Sand Mountain Road, Spring Mills. The event is free.

Living historian to present Victorian Tea
LEWISTOWN -Civil War living historian Myra Reichart, of Gettysburg, will be the featured speaker at the Mifflin County Historical Society's Summer Victorian Tea.
The tea, which will be held on July 12, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown.
Reichart's topic will be "The History and Etiquette of the Tea."

Eagle Scouts invited to summer camp
SPRING MILLS - The Boy Scouts of America in Centre, Mifflin, Juniata and Huntingdon Counties is hosting an Eagle Scout reunion event open to all Eagle Scouts living in the area.
The reunion will be held on July 14 at Seven Mountain Scout Camp. The event is free of charge. Check in will start at 6:30 p.m., with the reunion beginning at 7 p.m. Parking is available in the main summer camp lot.
The purpose of the event is for anyone who has attained the rank of Eagle Scout to come and enjoy a nice evening at summer camp and learn more about the current scouting program. The event will also serve as a venue for Eagle Scouts to reconnect and share an evening of fun, fellowship and light refreshments.

Special day to be held in Yeagertown
YEAGERTOWN -Yeagertown Community Day will start at 8 a.m. on July 19.
There will be neighborhood yard sales.
Activities at the Yeagertown United Methodist Church on Mann Avenue will include an inside yard sale, free hot dogs and drinks, and the restrooms will be open to the public.
Millerstown Flea Market is Aug. 16
MILLERSTOWN -Millerstown's Annual Outdoor Flea Market and Craft Show will be held Aug. 16 at the Millerstown Community Park, 110 West Juniata Parkway, near the Millerstown swimming pool, just off the ramps of Route 22-322.
Flea market vendors, yard sale individuals, craft vendors, antique vendors, farm market and produce vendors and businesses are all welcome to set up for the day for a fee of $10. More than 100 vendors are expected. No prior registration is required. Set up after 5:30 a.m. on the morning of the show. Rain date is Aug. 23.
Food and beverage sales are reserved by the sponsoring organization, Millerstown Community Success, Inc.

Photographers may enter new contest
LEWISTOWN - The work of amateur photographers will be featured in a Goose Day Photography Contest sponsored by the Mifflin-Juniata Arts Concil and the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau.
To be eligible, photographs must have been taken between Jan. 1, 2013, and Aug. 1, 2014. Categories are: Townscapes, Country Views, Water, Woodlands, Flora & Fauna. Faces and recognizable people may be in the photos, but a completed release form allowing JRVVB to publish the photograph must accompany the contest entry. Forms will be made available by the JRVVB. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 1.
All entries will be on display at Gallery 3West on The Square in Downtown Lewistown for Goose Day weekend, Sept. 27 and 28.
Photos are to be submitted in digital form only. Entries must conform to an 8-by-10-inch format and must be at least 300 dpi resolution. There is a $5 entry fee for each photo.

LEWISTOWN -The Mifflin County Historical Society is sponsoring a fall bus trip to Maine from Sept. 8 to 12.
The cost for society members is: Single, $1,215, double, $994, triple, $925; non-members, single, $1,240, double, $1,019, triple, $950. Half of the total cost is due at the time of reservation. Final payment is due Aug. 10.
