BELLEVILLE - Edward D. Fike Sr., 86, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.
He was born May 6, 1928, in Lewistown, the son of Robert D. and Catherine (Pannabaker) Fike.
Ed was preceded in death by: wife, Alberta Vogt Fike, in 2006; two brothers; and a sister.
Surviving are: children, Edward D. Fike Jr. and wife, Brenda, of McVeytown, and Sharon F. Morris and late John C. Morris, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Nicole Fike, Eric Fike and wife, Margaret, Kathryn Morris, and Matthew Morris and wife, Alissa; and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Gabriel and Jameson.
Edward was a devoted family man and was dearly loved by both his family and community. He remained active throughout his life, lifting weights, swimming and bike riding, and he enjoyed fishing.
He served his country during World War II as a paratrooper. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a supervisor, later retiring from Conrail.
Ed went on to serve his community as supervisor of Granville Township for 18 years, chairman of the Republican Committee for six years and as a member of the Solid Waste Authority in Mifflin County. He later was employed as a greeter at Wal-Mart in Lewistown for 10 years.
Ed was also an active member of McVeytown Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 376, Scottish Rite 32 Degree, Valley of Harrisburg, and of Jaffa Shrine, Altoona.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating. Interment will be in the Juniata Memorial Park with Military Honors by VFW Post No. 7011.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the funeral home.
