SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT - James E. Shellenberger, 68, of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2014, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1945, in Lewistown, the son of David A. and Beatrice (Horning) Shellenberger.
Jim was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and a graduate of the Williamsport School of Nursing. After nursing school, he served as a registered nurse for the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam at the USAF Regional Hospital from October 1967 to October 1968. He was discharged in October 1969.
He had been employed as a registered nurse in anesthesia for 40 years and had retired from Williamsport Hospital three years ago.
He is survived by his daughter, Krista; brothers, David N. Shellenberger, of Lancaster; and Thomas H. Shellenberger and wife, Judith, and their daughters, Carol Schwanger and Anna Radspinner, all of Williamsport; and his dearest friend, Ann Maiolo, of Williamsport.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, 604 Market St., Williamsport.
Burial with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
