Harvey D. Erb Sr.

McCLURE - Harvey D. Erb Sr., 92, of McClure, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014, at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in West Beaver Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Jacob and Erma (Baker) Erb.

Harvey graduated from McClure High school.

After school, he joined the Air Force in 1941 and served as a radio operator overseas during World War II until his discharge as a corporal in 1945.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in McClure, where he was a Sunday school superintendent for 25 years, taught Sunday school for 40 years and also sang in the choir.

His wife, Doris (Hearn) Erb, whom he married in 1946, survives.

He was previously employed as a branch manager at First National Bank of McClure and also had worked as an appraiser of properties and did payroll for organizations for Tri County Bank. He eventually retired from M&T Bank in 1986 after working in banking for 40 years.

Harvey enjoyed playing golf and watching football and baseball.

Mr. Erb was a charter member of the American Legion Post No. 942 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5640.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, H. Dale Jr. and Christy Erb, of McAlisterville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathe and Woody Kahley, of Greenville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jason, Justin and Jarryd Erb and Kara Kahley; three great-grandchildren, Holden, Grant and Aiden; and two sisters, Lois Yeater and Helen Morrison.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Erb.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, McClure, with the Rev. Kathy Mercado officiating. After the service, burial will be in St. John's Black Oak Ridge Cemetery in McClure.

Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.

Arrangements are by Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown.
