28th annual Country Memories Day - 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., May 24, in McVeytown. Breakfast will be served near the town square from 6-10 a.m. The opening ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. Activities will include horse and wagon rides, displays of antique and classic vehicles, street vendors, music, old-time demonstrations by a jeweler, broom-maker, blacksmith and more.
Buffalo Ridge Loop hike - 9:30-10:30 a.m., May 24, Little Buffalo State Park, Newport. Join the park naturalist for a hike on the Fisherman's Trail and half of the Buffalo Ridge Trail to make a one-hour loop. Hikers should wear sturdy footwear and bring drinking water. Stream Stomp - 11 a.m. to noon, May 24, Little Buffalo State Park. Find out what lives in the creek by catching the critters that live at the water's bottom. Participants will learn to identify what was caught and what that can reveal about the health of the stream. Closed-toed shoes should be worn. Meet by the performance stage in the park's east area.

Art and music festival - 10 a.m.-3 p.m., May 31, Tuscarora Junior High School. Art by area elementary, junior high school and high school students will be on display. There will be music by the East Juniata High School Jazz Band and Juniata High School and elementary student performances. The event also will feature face painting, games and creation stations.
Mifflin County Community Movie Night - 8 p.m., June 6, Hartman Center, Reedsville. Admission is free and "Monsters Inc." will be shown. Popcorn, s'mores and drinks are provided. Bring a blanket or chair. The event is sponsored by Communities That Care, G-Man Entertainment and the Hartman Center.

Photo contest - The Perry County Council of the Arts is accepting entries for its annual photo contest. This year's theme is "Birds and Animals of Perry County." Selected entries will be printed in the 2015 Perry County Calendar and sold throughout the county. Both amateur and professional photographers are welcome to enter the contest. Deadline is June 9.
