David E. Gelnett Sr.

McALISTERVILLE - David E. Gelnett Sr., 66, of McAlisterville, died at 6:43 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born on February 3, 1948, in Millerstown, he was a son of the late Grant H. Gelnett and Erma (Wilt) Gelnett-Jolly. On Nov. 15, 1966, he married Carol J. (VanOrmer) Gelnett, with whom he shared more than 47 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his sons, Terry V. Forry Sr. and his wife, Jean, of Lewistown, and David E. Gelnett Jr. and his wife, Karen, of McAlisterville; sisters, Mary Lou Dick, of Liverpool, and Judy K. Nichols, of Sebring, Fla; grandchildren, Terry V. Forry Jr., Travis S. Forry, Desirea C. Forry, Katrina M. Gelnett, Aaron P. Michalchik, and Emma J. Michalchik; and great-granddaughters, Madison L. Forry and Adalyn G. Forry.

One sister, Dorothy M. McNaughton and two brothers, Norman G. Gelnett and Dennis W. Gelnett, preceded him in death.

In earlier life, he was employed as a salesman for Electrolux in Sunbury, the Aukerina in Oakland Mills, and Grant's Department Store in Burnham, after which he owned and operated, Gelnett's Vacuum Sales and Service in McAlisterville, until his son David Jr. took over the business.

Mr. Gelnett was a member of the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville.

David was an avid checkers player. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
