MIFFLINTOWN - An immunization clinic sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Health is set for 1-3 p.m. May 30 at the American Legion, 29 S. Main St., Mifflintown.
Juniata County Commissioner Jeffrey Zimmerman announced the clinic during a Tuesday meeting of the board. He said the department is providing Tdap and Pneumovax vaccines at low or no cost to area residents who are underinsured or uninsured. To schedule an appointment, call the department of health at 527-4185.
Also during the meeting, the board approved 11 municipal waste processing and disposal facilities under the Mifflin-Juniata Regional Solid Waste Plan. Planning director Bradley Kerstetter said the plan tentatively will be in effect beginning Jan. 1, 2015.
Agreements are effective for up to 10 years and include: Advanced Disposal, Mostoller Landfill Inc.; Advanced Disposal, Greentree Landfill; Clinton County Solid Waste Authority; IESI Blue Ridge Landfill Corporation; Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority - Susquehanna Resource Management Complex; LCSWMA - Lancaster Waste to Energy; Lycoming County; Waste Management Disposal Services of Pennsylvania Inc; and WSI Sandy Run Landfill Inc.
Kerstetter said the facilities are not located in Mifflin or Juniata counties. Local waste is processed by the Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority and may then be transferred to one of the landfills previously mentioned.
