GRANVILLE - David J. Himes, 83, formerly of McClure, passed away at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Malta Home Retirement Community in Granville.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1930 in McClure, a son of the late Clay S. and Flo (Wagner) Himes.
He is survived by: nieces and nephews, Donald and Marie Pick, of Sugar Loaf, Bernice Hornberger, of Royersford, Janice Moore, of Northumberland, Norman and Pearl Strickler, of Millmont, Harold and Peggy Himes, of Mifflinburg, Dennis and Barbara Himes, of Spring City, and Kenneth and Ruth Himes, of Honey Brook; one sister-in-law, Margaret Himes, of Watsontown; and a special woman with whom he was very close, Glenda Helwig, of McClure.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by two brothers, Sherman and Marvin Himes.
David was a graduate of West Beaver Twp. High School.
After school he served in the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Himes had been employed at Standard Steel in Burnham as a lift truck operator until his retirement.
David was a member of Baker's United Methodist Church in McClure.
He looked forward to attending the McClure Bean Soup each year to visit with friends.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Baker's United Methodist Church where the funeral will follow with Pastor James Jacobs officiating.
Burial with military honors being accorded by the Midd-West Veterans Council, will follow in the adjoining Baker's EUB cemetery.
