YEAGERTOWN - In one of the lowest scoring games of the season, Yeagertown edged Beaver Springs, 3-1, Thursday night in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.
Yeagertown's Ty Bodtorf and Beaver Springs' Bailey Hetrick locked up in a pitchers' duel.
Bodtorf went six and one third innings as he gave up two hits, struck out 10 and walked three. Hetrick, who went six innings, only gave up four hits, struck out seven and walked four.
Yeagertown did all of its scoring early. Jordan Marshall knocked home a run in the first inning with a base hit. In the second, Isaac Matthews doubled home two more runs. Matthews had half of Yeagertown's four hits.
Beaver Springs scored its lone run in the sixth as Colby Kreider walked and scored on an error. The Springs' only two hits came in the fourth inning, which were singles by Tyler Martin and Chris Elliott. Beaver Springs loaded the bases in the fourth before Bodtorf got a strikeout for the third out.
In the seventh, Yeagertown changed pitchers as Marshall took the mound. But, he hit the first two men he faced before getting two outs. Zach Strawser walked to load the bases, but Bodtorf came back in to close the game with a strikeout.
Belltown 22, McVeytown 2
BELLTOWN - Belltown moved into third place with a 22-2 win over McVeytown Thursday night. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Belltown is now 8-4 and is a half game ahead of Strodes Mills (7-4), which was idle.
Belltown, which has now won six of its last seven games, pounded out 13 hits in the victory.
Levi Sherwood was the offensive star for Belltown with four hits. Sherwood also threw two scoreless innings to end the game.
Nick Hostetler added three hits with a triple. Austin Erb, Tyreen Smalley and Tre Fleck each had two hits. One of Erb's hits was a double.
McVeytown finished with four hits with Brody Kenepp, a 13-year-old, getting two. Dylan Goss and Evan Mock had the other singles.
Ross Underhill got the win with three innings of work. He struck out three, walked one and gave up three hits.
