BELLEVILLE - John P. Sharp, 87, of 319 King Lane, Belleville, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
Born May 17, 1927, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Fannie (Detweiler) Sharp. His wife, Betty (Krepps) Sharp, survives at their home.
Surviving are: children, Robert W. Sharp and wife, Cindy, of Lewistown, Lois Y. Zendt and husband, John, of Mifflintown, Beverly J. Miller and husband, Richard, of Raritan, N.J., and Dee K. Yoder and husband, Jay L., of Belleville; eight grandchildren, Chad Sharp, Angela Breon, Deron Zendt, Ryan Zendt, Justin Miller, Ashley Miller, Todd Yoder, and Lindsay Honn; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lizzie Hostetler, of Kansas, and Sadie Byler, of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by: five brothers, Jesse, Dave, Christ, Joe and Sim Sharp; and a sister, Fannie Yoder.
John was a dedicated truck driver. He began driving with Stuck's Feed Mill, then became employed with S.I. Yoder Oil Company. They were later bought out by Nittany Oil Company and John continued working with them. He was also a truck driver for Allensville Planning Mill and, most recently ran parts for Wes Krepps Garage in Belleville. John drove 18-wheelers for more than 62 years.
He was a member of Mountain View Chapel, the adult Sunday school class and men's Bible study at the church. He was a volunteer at Valley View Haven.
John was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and watching baseball. He was a Philadelphia Phillies fan.
A funeral service will be at noon Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, with Pastors Gerald Peachey, Don Sharp and David Aungst officiating. Burial will be private at Locust Grove Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, at the church.
