Car crash fells utility pole

Emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle accident at 732 E. Freedom Avenue in Burnham, Friday afternoon. According to reports from the Mifflin County Emergency Response Center, an SUV hit a utility pole and continued traveling onto Vira Road, before coming to a stop along a roadside embankment. Crews at the scene cleaned up water and other vehicle fluids near the pole, which held a transformer. Residents in the Burnham area were without power due to the accident. Mifflin County Regional Police were still investigating the cause of the accident as of press time Friday evening. Police were assisted on the scene by Burnham and Reedsville fire companies, Fame EMS and the Burnham Fire Police.
