McVEYTOWN - Roy H. Rhodes Sr., 63, of 20 Fairview Road, McVeytown, died at 5:55 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at his home. He had been in failing health.
Born on Nov. 12, 1950, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Glenn Rhodes and Alma (Krepps) Rhodes, of McVeytown.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine M. (Moffet) Rhodes on Nov. 15, 1969, in Ferguson Valley, by the Rev. Fern Dunmire.
His wife survives, along with: two children, Roy H. Rhodes Jr. and wife, Melissa, of McVeytown, and Renae L. Rhodes, of McVeytown; grandchildren, Landon Johnson, Sadie Rhodes and Kiersten Worthy; siblings, Gene "Case" Rhodes and wife, Patricia, of Spring Run, Linda Kratzer, of McVeytown, Daryl Rhodes Sr. and wife, Patricia, of McVeytown, Carol Hayes and husband, Max, of McVeytown, Pam Schriner and husband, Mike, of Lancaster, and Barry Rhodes Sr., of McVeytown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Rhodes Sr., a brother-in-law, Walter "Charlie" Kratzer Sr., and a grandson, Dakota Cutshall.
Mr. Rhodes served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam War.
He worked most recently for PennDOT for about 14 years. He also worked at Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union, and for Avtex, for 11 years.
Mr. Rhodes loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed working in the yard, especially mowing.
He was a member of The Way Bible Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Jerry Wise officiating. Interment will be made in Pine Glen Cemetery, Mattawana.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday May 15, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
