FARMINGTON, Conn. - Janet O. (Greenwood) McNitt, 102, a longtime resident of Reedsville, passed away on Oct. 7, 2012, in Farmington, Conn.
Janet was born Dec. 9, 1909 in Gardner, Mass. She was a graduate of Gardner High School and Simmons College in Boston.
After graduating college, Janet taught domestic science at Prospect Sr. Elementary School in Gardner. She moved to Reedsville in 1946 when she married J. Stewart McNitt, who preceded her in death in 1979.
In the early years Janet assisted Stewart in the management of the Honey Creek Inn which Stewart opened under the original name of the Esso Coffee Shop.
Janet was an active member of the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church for many years until she moved to Connecticut in 2001 to be closer to her brother, David, and his family.
Janet had a lifelong interest in the game of bridge and was a member of the theatre group in Gardner.
She was a most devoted wife, daughter and sister and was recognized as someone truly special by all who knew her. Her sunny disposition, kind nature and wonderful sense of humor made her many friends throughout her lifetime.
Janet is survived by: her sister, Constance Ives, of La Habra, Calif.; three nieces; five nephews; seven great-nephews; two great-niece; and many great-great nieces and nephews who were surely blessed to have been related to such a sweet, charming and gracious woman.
A memorial service will be held for Janet at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, Walnut Street, Reedsville. All are welcome to join in this celebration of Janet's life.
