LEWISTOWN - J. Howard 'Son' Bonson, 87, of Lockport Road, Lewistown, died at 7:18 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Golden Living Center- William Penn in Lewistown.
Born Jan. 6, 1927, in Milroy, he was a son of the late James Allen and Sara Alberta (Hackett) Bonson. His first wife, Betty E. (Buchanan) Bonson, whom he married Nov. 2, 1946, preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 2006. His second wife, Dolores J. (Jacobs) Noerr-Bonson, whom he married April 30, 2012, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Rebecca J. Shuey and husband, Jack L. Jr., of Owego, NY; a son, Mark E. Bonson and wife, Ann G., of Lewistown; four siblings, Armilda J. Miller, of Brisbon, Emily J. Bonson, of Lewistown, Frank A. Bonson and wife, Barbara, of Milroy, Marlin A. Bonson, of Reedsville; five grandchildren, Kyle and Jessica Shuey, and Sarah, Zachary, and Hannah Bonson.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Allen Bonson in 1965; and a sister, Gladys Anne Coulter.
A 1944 graduate of Reedsville High School, he also studied Ag Science at Penn State. In 1995 he retired from the Department of Agriculture where he worked in dog law enforcement. He was also a self-employed farmer, and for 25 years worked as a breeder.
Son was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the McVeytown Lodge #376 F&AM, the Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, and the Juniata Valley Forest #88 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He also was a 50 year member of the McVeytown Lions Club, a founding member of the Mifflin County Youth Park, and volunteered as a 4-H leader.
Son also enjoyed fellowship with his friends in the Yetter's Restaurant early morning breakfast club.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1715 Lockport Rd., Lewistown, with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown; and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
