MIFFLIN - Marlin B. Wirt, 77, of Burnham, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.
Born Sept. 22, 1936, in Tower City, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Hilda J. (Bailey) Wirt.
He is survived by: his wife, Diana K. (Wagner) Wirt, whom he married on April 14, 1984; his daughter, Marla M. Myrick, of Virginia; grandchildren, Shannon, Lindsay and Brittany; and his siblings, Betty Seed, of Ohio, Doris Hocker, of Linglestown, and Elva Lebo, of Muir.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Dean and Keith and his sister, Marian Scheib.
Earlier in life, Marlin was a dairy farmer. He later was a carpenter and was employed by Carpenter Local No. 287 in Harrisburg as construction superintendent, retiring in 1996. He then owned and operated R.R. Wagner Coal until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, a member of the United Methodist Church and a past member of the Rotary Club and United Commercial Travelers.
Marlin loved working in the yard and he could fix and make anything. He enjoyed listening to music and was a very talented trumpet player early in his life. He played basketball, baseball and was a band member.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. James A. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
