BEAVER SPRINGS - Kenneth L. "Ken" Jones, 84, of Spring Street, Beaver Springs, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on April 22, 2014, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Ken was born on April 27, 1929, in Shamokin, a son of the late Dewey and Carrie (Hooper) Jones. On May 5, 1951, he married Miriam (Soles) Jones who preceded him in death on July 7, 2007, after 56 years of marriage.
Ken served in the Army from 1947 to 1954. He served in Germany for three years during the Allied Occupation and participated in the Berlin Air Lift. He was awarded the Army Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant for his bravery in rescuing German workers from a burning factory after an explosion. He served in the Army Reserves from 1950 to 1954.
Ken attended Williamsport Area Community College where he earned certification in the field of electronics.
Ken was previously employed at Standard Steel in Lewistown and worked as a supervisor at Fisher Electronics in Lewistown. He also had a side business fixing and repairing televisions and radios in a shop at his home. He later worked as a cable TV equipment salesman for more than 20 years.
Ken was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time outdoors and being at his cabin in Quebec and his son's cabin in Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed reading and was especially fond of his pet dog Sammy.
Surviving are: one son, Allen Jones, of Apalachicola, Fla.; one daughter, Yvonne Weber, of Belleville; two brothers, Paul Jones, of Sunbury, and Perce Jones of Donaldsonville, Ga.; one sister, Daun Klinger, of Mount Pleasant Mills; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Ken also considered Robert Kline Jr. and Jamie Beaver to be his family.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ken was preceded in death by: one granddaughter, Christy Ferguson; one brother, Wayne; and one sister, Fay.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown. After the service, internment with military honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Beavertown.
Afterwards, there will be a reception and meal in the banquet room of Ken's favorite restaurant, Vince's Pizza, U.S. Highway 522, Beaver Springs.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the funeral home.
Ken will be buried in his favorite blue jeans and requested that people in attendance for the services wear casual and comfortable clothes.
