To the editor:
In response to the letter of George Fisher in the April 15 Sentinel, you are very far off base as far as homosexuality in the Bible is concerned.
It is true that the words "homosexuality" or "homosexual" do not appear in the Bible, but the Bible has quite a bit to say about it. Following are just a few of the points:
No. 1 Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of homosexuality. You can read all about it in Genesis 18:17 through Genesis 19:30.
No. 2 Leviticus 18:22 says, "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination."
No. 3 As stated in Romans 18 through 25, since creation God has revealed to us His nature and what He wanted man to do. He gave us a conscience to tell us right from wrong, but man would not listen, so as stated in Romans 26: "For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature" and Romans 27: "Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due."
No. 4 Jude 7 and 8 says, "As Sodom and Gormorrah and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire, likewise, also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries."
Yes, homosexuality is a sin. Yes, God will forgive sin, if you repent of your sin and ask Christ to come into your heart and forgive you and be your Savior. No. 1 To repent means to say the same thing that God says about your sin. No. 2 If you do not really believe that it is sin and that therefore you should not be doing it, you did not repent No. 3 If you think it is still OK to do because you enjoy it so much, you did not repent,
As far as Obama being a Christian, let me say that anyone can claim to be a Christian. If you have repented of your sins and asked Christ to be your Savior, you are a Christian. If you do not, you are not a Christian.
As for cattle grazing and desert tortoises, I won't get into that at this time, except to say that I think we need to spend more time worshipping the Creator and less time worshipping the creation.
