VFW Post 7011 Honor Guard members, from left, Paul Burkett, Gene Bishop, and Dick Shilling raise an American flag Friday at the third floor entrance of the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Standing in the background is Geisinger-Lewistown Safety and Security officer Adam Young. Young is a specialist in the Military Police Army Reserve. The flag was flown in combat over the skies of Afghanistan on Nov. 14, 2013 and carried by an MQ-9 Reaper in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The flag was presented to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital as thanks for items donated to the members of the 62nd Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron and Reaper Aircraft Maintenance Units. The project was coordinated by Sonny Stahl, Bonnie Bowsman, Sarah Wagner and Rebecca Thompson, all of whom are registered nurses at the hospital. Stahl’s brother, Tech Sgt. Kurtis Hoar, is a member of the 62nd ERS and AMU. Sgt. Hoar is a graduate of Indian Valley High School and a former resident of Reedsville. He is stationed in Las Vegas. The four nurses reached out to their co-workers, friends and family members for donations such as snacks and hygiene items to send to the troops over the holidays.
