From staff reports
LEWISTOWN - Spreading rumors about a "hit list" of Mifflin County School District students to shoot resulted in disorderly conduct citations issued by the Mifflin County Regional Police against two male juveniles.
According to a report from police, both MCRPD and MCSD received numerous complaints on Thursday indicating a student at a school developed a hit list to shoot other students. Police said they, along with administrative staff, interviewed many students and were able to trace the complaints to find that the student in question never made any list nor did he make any threats to harm other students.
According to the report, the rumors continued on Friday and again they were traced back to their origin, with officials finding two students that talked about the other student. Police said these students added information that was not true. According to the report, as this conversation was spread at the school and on social media, it snowballed causing more hysteria.
According to the report both juveniles were cited for disorderly conduct for creating a physically hazardous offensive condition that served no legitimate purpose.
