Constance D. ‘Connie’ Fluke

LEWISTOWN - Constance D. "Connie" Fluke, 88, of Lewistown, died at 7:18 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Ohesson Manor.

Born July 8, 1925, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Madeline Grace (Ziegler) Gomes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair I. Fluke, on July 12, 1989, and a brother, Ralph Gomes.

Connie is survived by: her children, Charles Kenneth Fluke and wife, Mary, of Fairfield, Barbara Torok and husband, Ron, of Lewistown, Kay Pickel and husband, Ed, of New Cumberland, Donna Shue, of Carlisle, William LLoyd Fluke and wife, Michele, of Orlando, Fla., and Sally Burkholder and husband, Pat, of Lewistown; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul I. Gomes and wife, Betty, of Altoona.

She was a graduate of Altoona High School. She had been employed at Sylvania Electric from 1943 to 1959 and then was employed at the Bon-Ton in Lewistown for 22 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Mifflin-Juniata Concert Association, Order of the Eastern Star No. 283 in Lewistown and Mifflin County Retired Teachers Association.

Connie loved to dance and enjoyed watching birds and collecting angels and Kewpie dolls.

She was an avid reader and also enjoyed her friends at the donut shop.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with her family. She was a fun person who was always able to share a funny story.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
