William D. ‘Billy’ Hamman Sr.

McVEYTOWN - William D. "Billy" Hamman Sr., 80, of South River Road, McVeytown, went to be with the Lord at 10:45 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Born Feb. 17, 1934, in Mapleton Depot, he was a son of the late Gerald E. and Mary I. (Hershey) Hamman. His wife, Shirley T. (Lane) Hamman, whom he married Oct. 3, 1953, survives.

Also surviving are: three children, Judy Harper and husband, Don, of Lewistown, Kathy Kephart and husband, Steve, of Lewistown, and William "Dale" Hamman Jr., of McVeytown; four brothers, Cecil and wife, Audrey, of Three Springs, Fred and wife, Joyce, of Three Springs, Emory and wife, Nancy, of Shippensburg, and Thurman and wife, Kathy, of Fort Loudon; two sisters, Ann Hackenberg and husband, Donn, of Chambersburg, and Clara Marie Pisle and husband, John, of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Lisa Wennick and husband, Doug, of Mount Union, Amy Jo Kintzel and husband, Bill, Keith Fields and wife Angela, Mike Kephart, and Derrick Kephart, all of Lewistown; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: five brothers, Sonny, Paul, Gerald, Howard and Ronald; and four sisters, Cora Rodgers, Margaret White, Winifred Peters and Faye Faust.

A truck driver for 60 years, he last drove for Class One in McVeytown, retiring in 2012.

He was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren.

He loved to spend time with his family, and enjoyed attending church, hunting and fishing.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 67 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Harshbarger Funeral Home, McVeytown, is in charge of arrangements.
