To the editor:
Looks like we are having an old-fashioned winter this year. It's the kind of winter we had many times when I was a kid and up through the 1970s. It is a bit of a nuisance now that I am no longer a kid, but it is not an indication of global warming. Pardon me! I guess the new politically correct term is "climate change" as some of the wacko birds are saying. We have nuts out there claiming that "climate change" is causing everything from forest fires to floods, and even earthquakes. I wonder if it might cause ingrown toenails or maybe hair loss, too. Of course, it is all caused by man, according to these so-called experts.
We burn too much oil and coal and gasoline. Why heck, we even pollute the earth by just breathing. These nuts even consider the very CO2 that we exhale as a pollutant. I suppose we will all have to hold our breath. And then there is all the cows that burp when they chew their cud and all the other cow parts that they use: All that methane will destroy the planet.
All these things are causing climate change, these experts are saying. Our own secretary of state referred to climate change as "a weapon of mass destruction." I am dazzled by his brilliance.
So now if we just spend enough money (which we don't have), ruin our economy even more, and lower everyone's quality of life in the United States, we can save the world. If the measly 300 million or so people in the United States sacrifice enough and spend enough, we can counteract the several billion people in India, China, and the rest of Asia and Africa who are going to do nothing. Sounds like a great plan, doesn't it? Our leadership is as nutty as a fruit cake.
I don't care how much some people try to say that science is settled, I say they are full of "it." I will give them one thing: The climate does change whether or not it is man-caused, because it is not settled, but the climate does change from time to time. There are times in the past when the climate was warmer than it is now. Scientists have discovered evidence of farm land in parts of the world that are now covered with ice. That is a fact. We also know that the world was a lot colder than it is now. We've had several ice ages. By the way, these climate changes were not because people were using too many SUVs and pickup trucks.
There are too many of these so-called experts today who want to have it both ways. It doesn't matter what kind of weather pattern we are in at a given time, they say that is proof of climate change. No, it is simply called "weather." It's like the old coin toss trick: Heads I win, tails you lose.
For all you experts on climate change out there, I have just have two simple questions: When did God die and leave you in charge? And: How do you know what the ideal world climate should be?
