NEWARK, Del. - James L. Cowan Jr., 52, of Newark, Del., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.
Born Jan. 19, 1962, in Lewistown, he was a son of James L. Cowan Sr. and Marjorie R. Swan Cowan.
James was a 1980 graduate of Newark High School. James was a talented carpenter and worked for Drywall Associates, located in Newark, for many years.

He was a gifted baseball player, and in his youth pitched for the Newark and Babe Ruth Little Leagues, and later, for Newark High School. James was inducted into the Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame, where he was honored for his excellent pitching abilities. In his leisure time he was an avid bowler and hunter. Additionally, James was a member of the American Poolplayers Association and greatly enjoyed playing pool with fellow members and friends.
In addition to his parents, James is survived by: his beloved wife of 16 years, Linda M. Galezniak Cowan; daughters, Valerie Parker and Rebecca (Gerard) Rodriguez; brothers, Michael (Maryann) Cowan and Charles (Denise) Cowan ; two grandchildren, Vanessa and Gabriel Rodriguez; numerous aunts and uncles; and his loyal canine companion, Angel.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, Del. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will be held after the service in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Del.
