MIFFLINTOWN - Mary E. Lauver Culbertson, 86, of Mifflintown (Arch Rock), died at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 22, 1927, in Mifflintown (Cuba Mills), a daughter of the late Noah H. and Violet (Yocum) Yocum. Mary is survived by her husband, Glen H. Culbertson, whom she married on May 23, 1992.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her daughter, Joan (Lauver) Clark and her husband, Ronald, of Mifflintown; two stepsons, Dr. Glen Culbertson Jr., of Troy, N.Y., and Dr. Edward Culbertson and his wife, Carmen, of Plano, Texas; one stepdaughter, Judy Reece and her husband, Ned, of Bucyrus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Kimberly (Clark) Swartz, of Mifflintown, and Troy Linn Clark and wife, Kimberly, of Lewistown; five great-grandchildren, Chantz and Morgan Swartz, Parker, Hayden and Sophia Clark; five step- grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Isaac and Timothy Culbertson, all of Plano, Texas, and Sheryl Saunders, of Galion, Ohio; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
One sister, Emma Jane Hart Pressler, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook.
From the age of 15 she worked in a rug mill and later at various garment factories throughout the county, until retiring in 1987 from Juniata Garment, Mifflin.
Her hobbies included reading, crocheting and sewing. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary and Glen spent six months of the year in Riverview, Fla. and six months at their home in Arch Rock. They traveled extensively and have many friends from all over the United States and Canada.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating. Interment will be after the service in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook.
There will be no viewing, however, family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
