To the editor:
Lewistown Police Department would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for its overwhelming support for our "Fill a Cruiser" to fight hunger. This event was co-sponsored by the Lewistown Giant store on Dec. 20, 2013.
The event was the inspiration of Sgt. Michael Hoskavich and benefited Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, a local food bank located atat 21 South Main St. in Lewistown.
The idea to help fight hunger in our community was greatly helped when, a few days before our event, the fourth and fifth grade Lewistown Intermediate Students held a food drive and donated over 2,000 food items - an outstanding job!
On the day of the event, people throughout the community donated food to our officers who stood by in the parking lot of the Giant store. A huge "thank you" also goes to the Giant store employees who made a large donation.
It was because of the support of the community and the LIS students that this event was such a success and resulted in the delivery of much needed food items to the food bank at Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.
