LEWISTOWN - The Mifflin County Regional Police Department, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Police, are investigating multiple instances of counterfeiting in the more rural areas of Mifflin County.
Preliminary investigations reveal that two people have been passing counterfeit $100 bills at various small businesses in rural Mifflin County. These bills may pass the "pen test" due to the paper on which they are printed, police said.
Police are encouraging business owners in the area to pay special attention to customers paying with a $100 bill. Business personnel should thoroughly examine the bill and verify the correct water mark and embedded security strip.
