McALISTERVILLE - Shirley E. Winters, 78, of McAlisterville, died at 1:29 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born on Oct. 6, 1935, in Delaware Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Emmet and Catherine (Benner) Swartz. Her husband, William R. "Bill" Winters, preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1999.
Surviving are her children, Jack Brown Jr. and his wife, Jordan, of Missoula, Mont., Debora Everly and her companion, Clarence Coble, Vickie Brown and her companion, Terry Arbogast, Peggy Gutowski and her husband, Jerry, Kim Kitting and Tammy Swartwood and her husband, Barry, all of McAlisterville; and she leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
One son, Barry Brown, and a granddaughter, Ashley Coble, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Winters attended the New Harvest Community Church, Millerstown.
In earlier life, she worked for Knouse Foods, Mount Holly Springs, and in 1986 she retired as a seamstress from Blough and Wagner, Middleburg. While employed by Blough and Wagner, she also served as a news carrier for The Sentinel.
Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, making quilts and spending time with her family, especially babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. J. H. Richard officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
