McCLURE - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that the new bridge on U.S. 522 over Beaver Creek, West Beaver Township, will open on Sept. 11.
PennDOT says that although the project will not be completed until approximately Sept. 20, the new bridge will open to two-way traffic about mid-day on Wednesday. Motorists are advised to stay alert for the changing patterns as traffic is moved from the temporary bridge.
After the bridge opens, the contractor will continue to work on tasks such as under-drain, installation, shoulder tie-ins, guide rail, final paving, and removal of the temporary bridge and roadway. PennDOT says that some of these tasks will require daytime periods of one-lane travel controlled by flaggers. However, two-lane travel will be restored at the end of each workday.
PennDOT says that this will wrap up a $1.9 million, two-year, two-bridge replacement contract that began early last year. The bridge over Kern Run in Beavertown was replaced in 2012.
