LEWISTOWN - Following a brief public hearing to go over final recommendations on where to utilize 2013 Community Development Block Grant funding, the Mifflin County Commissioners on Thursday gave their approval for the disbursement of $218,886 for six projects.
Those projects, along with funding allocations, include:
Mifflin-Juniata Dental Clinic, $7,130 for equipment purchases and to continue serving additional income eligible patients.

SEDA-COG Mann Edge Terrace Phase II, $7,000 for land acquisition and engineering services.
Juniata Terrace Borough, $104,300 for completion of previously funded sanitary slip-lining project for construction costs only.
Mount Union Municipal Authority, $30,259 for potable water line replacement materials purchase only.
The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown, $28,259 for public water line expansion in Armagh Township (materials purchase only).
Planning and Development Department, $2,539 for single-family owner occupied housing rehabilitation.
County administration, $39,399.
In other business Thursday, the commissioners adopted a proclamation designating Sept. 15-21 as "Child Passenger Safety Week" and Sept. 21 as "National Seat Check Saturday" in the county. According to the proclamation, all 50 states, the District of Columbia and all U.S. territories have laws requiring the use of child safety seats and seat belts for children traveling in motor vehicles. The proclamation also noted that many child safety seats are not used correctly and that some children are moved to the next restraint type prematurely.
The proclamation said that during Child Passenger Safety Week, hundreds of certified child passenger seat technicians will be available to complete free child seat safety checks at locations across the country. In Mifflin County, car seat checks will be available Sept. 16 through Sept. 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lewistown Hospital. Those wishing to have their safety seat checked are asked to contact Stacey at 242-7110 to schedule an appointment. Technicians are also available year-round at all Pennsylvania State Police barracks.
On hand to accept the proclamation was Dawn Roussey, safety press officer for PennDOT Engineering District 2-0.

Approved purchase of service agreements for use, if needed, by Children & Youth, with Outside In School of Experiential Education Inc., Greensburg; Soulberry Farm Inc., Huntingdon; Delaware Guidance Services for Children and Youth Inc., Williamsport; and Tuscarora Intermediate Unit, McVeytown.
Approved 2013 Liquid Fuels allocation to Bratton Township in the amount of $4,510.27,
Accepted the Mifflin County Victims of Juvenile Offenders grant in the amount of $6,988 for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.
Accepted the application for the Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority's 901 planning grant, which will be used to complete and implement the authority's new management plan.
Accepted an offer of $201 for a parcel located in Granville Township that is currently in repository for unsold properties.
Approved a resolution reappointing Chief Clerk Cathy Romig to serve as fair housing compliance officer.
Approved a resolution adopting the minority and women's business enterprise plan, which encourages the opportunity for full participation of women and minorities in all housing and community development programs that receive funds from the state department of community and economic development.
Approved the retirement of Gloria Huffman as a data entry clerk in the Tax Claim/Voter Registration office effective Aug. 23.
Approved the hiring of Gloria Huffman as a part-time data entry clerk in the Tax Claim/Voter Registration office effective Sept. 3.
