LEWISTOWN - Cheeseburgers are just too simple for Brad Schmidt's grilling needs. He specializes in homemade pizza burgers, now pre-made and ready for purchase at his new storefront, Schmidt's Pizza Burgers.
"We don't sell cooked food, but fresh pizza burger patties for people to take home or for restaurants to buy," Schmidt said. "I consider it an old-fashioned pizza burger, completely handmade from my personal recipe."
Schmidt's burgers are made from two beef patties marinated in a sauce mixture, then pressed together with cheese in the middle. The recipe also involves a mixture of spices that will remain a secret, he said.

"About four months ago a friend and I started making the patties in a home kitchen," Schmidt said. "We began selling them at local stores and they were doing incredibly well. I decided to open an official location where I could make and sell the product."
In addition to Schmidt's Pizza Burgers, located at 821 Electric Ave., Lewistown, the patties are available for purchase at Fisher's Farm Market, Old Country Store, Toot's Place and Hillside Market. They sell in packs of eight for $12.99.
Schmidt is holding a grand opening on July 27 with free grilled samples of pizza burger patties as well as pizza burger sandwiches for purchase. Regular hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
