BELLEVILLE - Paul S. Zook, 92, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, passed away peacefully at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Haven.
Born Feb. 13, 1921, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Frank and Sadie (Stoltzfus) Zook. His first wife, Elizabeth (Alexander) Zook, preceded him in death on March 24, 1993. His second wife, Elizabeth G. (Heaps) Fleming Zook, of 250 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, survives.
He is survived by: children, Franklin A. Zook and companion, Mary Lee Sheaffer, of Reedsville, and Paula Hoenstine and husband, Bill, of Lewistown and Orlando; grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Zook; great-granddaughter, Brooke Hoenstine; sister, Lois King; sister-in-law, Janet Zook, both of Belleville; as well as a number of special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his grandson, Brian Hoenstine; his twin sister, Pauline Peachey; brothers, Loren and Floyd Zook; brothers-in-law, Mark King and Byron Peachey; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kocur and Margaret Rodriguez.
Paul was a graduate of Belleville High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was on board the USS Savannah.
When he returned to Belleville, he owned and operated Zook's Grocery Store for four years. After that, he went to work in the welding and maintenance department at New Holland, where he retired with 32 years of service.
Paul attended Locust Grove Mennonite Church, was a former member of West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church and was a member of Stoup- Alexander VFW Post 5935, Belleville.
He enjoyed hunting, watching Penn State sports and being outdoors, especially in the mountains.
Paul was a skilled handyman; he and two of his friends built their camp, the Mule-Drift Lodge, in Stone Valley. He enjoyed spending time there with his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2013, at Valley View Haven Chapel, with Pastors Max Zook and Gerald Peachey officiating. Inurnment will be in Machpelah Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the chapel.
