LEWISTOWN - Daniel N. King, 98, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 11:17 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born July 14, 1914, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Samuel Y. King and Sadie C. (Newman) King. His first wife, Sylvia A. (Hostetler) King, preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1997. His second wife, Mary M. (Sharp) King, preceded him in death on March 16, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Samuel J. King and wife, Joyce, of Reedsville, Nancy S. Marsh and husband, Richard, of Jacksonville, Fla., Omer E. King and wife, Martha, of Fayetteville, Esther R. Troyer and husband, Glenn, of Sugar Creek, Ohio, and Verna M. Rocker and husband, Guy, of Port Leyden, N.Y., 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Along with his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel N. King Jr., who died on March 11, 1958, two brothers, Eli King and Levi King, and a half sister, Mary Yoder.

He became an ordained minister in 1944 and had served at the Amish Mennonite Church in Big Valley. He served his denomination with peace-making tendencies and spent countless hours in service to the Mennonite Central Committee. He was also a self-employed painter and a farmer for a number of years.

Dan was a member of Valley View Amish Mennonite Church and Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church.

He enjoyed talking with people and making new friends.

A funeral service will be held in his memory at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church with Minister Jesse Lee Spicher officiating. Burial will take place at Green Lane Cemetary, Reedsville.

His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church.

In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Valley View Haven Endowment Fund, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home Inc., 3813 W. Main St., Belleville.
