Evalyn M. Lewis

HARRISBURG - Evalyn M. Lewis, 90, of Enola, formerly of Indiana, Pa., passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Harrisburg Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

A daughter of the late James Lester and Anna Jane Hubler Haines, she was born Nov. 19, 1922 in Decatur Township, Mifflin County.

She is survived by: three children, David B. Lewis and wife, Sharon, of Lewes, Del.; Carol A. Lewis, of Enola; Patti L. Baer and husband, Len, of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Robert Haines, of Pampa, Texas; two granddaughters, Michele Keane and husband, Dan, and Stephanie Salvino and husband, Steve; three great-grandchildren, Justin LaLima, Kaitlyn Keane and Riley Salvino; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen B. Lewis; three sisters, Mildred Krick, Ruth Haines and Lois Haines; and two brothers, James Leon Haines and Everett Haines.

Mrs. Lewis was a graduate of Lewistown High School. She worked for the Pennsylvania State Bureau of Statistics in Harrisburg for five years, and also worked at Eisenhower Elementary School as a secretary for 27 years.

Mrs. Lewis was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member of the Elks Auxiliary and the Indiana Fire Department Auxiliary. She also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels in the Indiana area. Mrs. Lewis was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. It seemed like she knew everyone in Indiana. Mrs. Lewis always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother by her children.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at Robinson-Lytle Inc., in Indiana. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Denny Marshall officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to Visiting Nurse Association of Indiana County, Medical Arts Building, Suite 300, 850 Hospital Road, Indiana, PA 15701.
