LEWISTOWN - Barbara M. Bowers, 66, of Lewistown, died on Friday, June 7, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her family after a courageous two-year battle with ALS.
Barbara was born on June 29, 1946, a daughter of the late Ivan C. and Roxanna (Leeper) Mierley.
She is survived by her husband, David L. Bowers, and her children, D. Christopher Bowers and wife, Megan, of Burnham, and Shelly Page and husband, David, of Charlotte, N.C.

Barbara is also survived by: her precious grandchildren, Noah Bowers, Caroline, Ella and Sarah Michele Page; her sister, Beth (Mierley) Saufler and husband, Chuck, of Bath, Maine, and their son, her nephew, Christopher Kibler, of Townsend, Mass.; sister-in-law, Delores Haley; a special cousin, Richard Stump; an aunt; and numerous cousins.
Barbara graduated from Lewistown Granville High School, Class of 1964, and Shippensburg State Teachers College, Class of 1968.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Lewistown. Barbara participated in the adult bell choir, was a past member of the administrative board, was a trustee and she helped with the Good Eggs project.
Barbara was a board member of the Juniata Mifflin Community Concert Association and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She enjoyed her adventures with her good friends, Jaynee Carolus, Carol Runk and Sharon Jones.
She worked for the Pennsylvania State Employment Office for more than 30 years.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., with the Rev. Karen McCachren officiating, Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
